General store in a sought-after Cornish coastal village is sold

32/16842 The Village Stores
A Premier-branded store in the sought-after coastal village of Kingsand in south east Cornwall has been sold through the Exeter Office of leading business agents, Christie + Co.
The Village Store is located on Fore Street and occupies a single-fronted shop unit, with a sales area measuring approximately 100 sq m and two basement store rooms.
Kingsand and neighbouring Cawsand are twin historic fishing villages on the Rame Peninsula in the south east corner of Cornwall, with delightful narrow streets of colour-washed cottages meandering down to the harbour front. Until 1844, Kingsand was in Devon, but Cawsand has always been in Cornwall. The villages are popular with tourists, but so far retain their traditional character and are well known for their smuggling and fishing past. Although the known smuggling tunnels have been sealed up, there are still old fish cellars and boat stores to be seen along the coast.
Paul Heather, from Christie + Co’s Exeter Office, who handled the sale, commented; “The business had been owned by Stephen Michael since 1986, who operated it as a general store and newsagent, but has now decided to retire. The purchasers are Melanie and Charles McDonald from Northamptonshire who already live part of the year in the village and are now making a permanent move.”
The Village Store was sold for an undisclosed sum.
