Christie + Co sells cocktail bar and restaurant in Oxford city centre to local operator

74/7313 Sahara
The Milton Keynes office of leading licensed property agents, Christie + Co, has assigned the lease of the Sahara cocktail bar and restaurant at 11 Wheatsheaf Yard, Blue Boar Street, Oxford, to Julian Rosser, owner of the Duke of Cambridge in Little Clarendon Street, which has been Oxford’s leading cocktail bar for over 25 years.
Christie + Co handled the sale on behalf of Sahara Bars Ltd, which operates the Sahara Bar in Reading and acquired the Oxford site (previously occupied by Bistro Je T'aime) through Christie + Co in February 2006.
Sahara Bar occupies an attractive, three-storey building situated in a little alleyway, just 100 yards off Oxford’s High Street, in a well known spot for eating and drinking. The restaurant has two dining areas with a total of 120 covers plus 40 on a decked courtyard terrace. The cocktail bar seats 50 and occupies the ground floor; the restaurant seats 70 and is on the first floor.
Carl Steer of Christie + Co’s Milton Keynes office, who negotiated the sale, comments: “The sale of the Sahara premises appealed strongly to the market, being a premium site in Oxford City Centre. The new owner, Mr Rosser, is delighted to have acquired a second cocktail bar in Oxford.”
Christie + Co invited offers in the region of £35,000 for the remainder of a 10-year, free-of-tie lease, which commenced in August 2003 with a current annual rent of £45,000.
