Former South Devon CAMRA Pub of the Year, The Bay Horse Inn, Totnes, sold to locals

The Exeter Office of leading licensed property agents, Christie + Co, is delighted to announce the sale of The Bay Horse Inn, Cistern Street, Totnes, on behalf Gina Coles to Rob and Kathy Alexander.

Totnes is an ancient market town and river port in the South Hams area of South Devon. It covers a long hill sloping gently to the Dart Estuary and is surrounded by beautiful countryside, with busy narrow streets dominated by a castle and church towers full of architectural and historic interest.

The Bay Horse Inn is a stone-built, 3-storey, mid-terrace property that retains many period features including ornate plaster ceilings, slate flooring, exposed stone walls and dark wooden furniture.

The trading areas comprise: on the ground floor, seating for 26 in the lounge bar, covers for 28 in the restaurant and a mixture of soft seating in the snug for 18. On the first floor there are 3double and 1 twin letting bedrooms in addition to a residents' lounge. On the second floor there is a double bedroom and lounge/dining room. Externally, there are two substantial beer gardens providing seating for 70+.

Jon Clyne of Christie + Co’s Exeter office, comments: “We were instructed by Gina in late March 2009 to seek suitable purchasers who would continue the traditions and hard work that she and her late husband had put into the premises over the past couple of years. The successful buyers, Rob and Kathy Alexander, look forward to re-establishing the trade and pushing forward with plans for increasing the occupancy rate of the lovely letting rooms. They also intend to keep up the pub's reputation as one of the finest real ale houses in the area whilst making further use of the two fantastic beer gardens by providing spit roasts and barbeques."

The Bay Horse Inn was sold leasehold off an undisclosed figure. The pub is held on a 25-year free of tie lease that commenced in September 2006.
