Previous owners, Karl & Amanda Mainey had taken over the inn when it was in a sad state of repair and set about transforming it into an award-winning, AA five-star Luxury Rated inn with four luxurious letting rooms, a Cask Marque accreditation and an outstanding reputation for its food offering.
Karl & Amanda comment; “It is with a heavy heart we leave The Crown, but after 11 fantastic years there we felt the timing was right. We aren’t going far and are now focussing our attention on The Wild Swan, Minskip which we bought a while ago and had been running alongside The Crown. We wish the new owners, Joe & Sarah the very best of luck and are sure they’ll enjoy running the place as much as we did!”
New owners, Joe & Sarah Stuart comment; “After a career in large organisations, most recently positioned overseas, we set our sights on running a traditional, North Yorkshire coaching inn. The Crown met our specific criteria for being highly reputable and having a strong team of staff. The fact that it is ideally situated for those touring Yorkshire or visiting Harrogate is also a plus! We are enjoying the new challenge and welcome customers old and new dropping in to say hello.”
David Cash, Senior Business Agent at Christie & Co’s Newcastle office who handled the sale, comments; “Coaching inn businesses as good as The Crown Inn rarely come to market and for obvious reasons, we were instructed to find a buyer in a confidential manner. We ran a very discreet process whereby only a select number of people got to know of the opportunity and we very quickly found a credible purchaser. We wish all the best for Karl & Amanda and Joe & Sarah in their new ventures.
"This sale highlights the desirability for quality businesses and the demand for North Yorkshire pubs is evident following the recent sales of The Queen Catherine, Osmotherley, The Red Lion, South Stainley & The Blacksmiths Arms, North Cowton, to name but a few that Christie & Co has sold."
The Crown Inn was sold freehold off an asking price of £1,250,000.
