Isle of Wight care home sold through Christie & Co to local provider

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has completed on the sale of St Vincent’s Care Home, a well established care home situated in Ryde on the Isle of Wight, to an experienced operator.

Registered for 25 residents, St Vincent’s is a care home for ex-military servicemen, women and widows, and provides 25 single en suite bedrooms over three floors. The property sits in a large plot with an orchard to the rear and plenty of parking to the front and side.

The care home has been successfully operated by SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, with a full time manager looking after the day to day care of the service users and a complement of dedicated staff. The decision to sell the care home was made by the charity in order to concentrate on other key areas of support.

Peter Sandiford, Director of Client Services for SSAFA comments, “After making a strategic decision to move away from the care home sector, we wanted to make sure that St Vincent’s was sold as a trading care home so that our residents and staff would have continuity of where they lived and worked. It was important for SSAFA to find the right person to take over the business and with Diane Radcliffe, we feel that she will continue the caring and supportive ethos that SSAFA offers.”

The new owner of St Vincent’s, Diane Radcliffe is experienced in the sector as the owner of Wight Home Care, the largest private provider of home care on the Isle of Wight. She comments, “We are delighted to have purchased this well known and performing care home from SSAFA. The care home offers us a good opportunity to build on its already good name and we look forward to getting to know our residents, their families and new colleagues. It is important to me that St Vincent’s remains a home for SSAFA members. My father was a Lancaster Bomber pilot and all of his brothers were in the forces, as was my husband’s father. We also have a nephew who is serving in the Armed Forces. We look forward to looking after veterans, their families and other elderly people from the area.”

Charles Phillips, Director at Christie & Co’s Winchester office handled the sale and comments, “Following a confidential marketing campaign, St Vincent’s obtained a number of offers from local potential purchasers and we are pleased to have concluded the sale with Diane.

“The home is a natural progression for her other business, Wight Home Care Ltd, and we are sure both businesses will go from strength to strength. It has been a pleasure acting for SSAFA in the sale of the care home and making sure that the process was handled smoothly and correctly for the residents and staff.”
