New owners sought for well established store in Stelling Minnis

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has brought to the market Stelling Minnis Stores, an established store located in the Kent village of Stelling Minnis.

Situated in the heart of the village with limited competition nearby, the store is heavily relied upon by the local community. The store occupies a large, three storey building and offers a wide range of goods, including convenience products, alcohol, confectionery and general household products, as well as National Lottery services. The store also benefits from customer parking to the front of the property.

Additionally, the property features owner’s accommodation across the first and second floors, comprising four bedrooms, a well sized kitchen and lounge, bathroom, shower room, utility space, office and additional reception room, which could be converted into an additional bedroom. The large garden and private parking also make this an ideal purchase for an owner operator with a family.

Current owners, Bruce and Emma Warden have operated the store for the past 24 years and have decided to sell in order to retire. They comment, “When we took the shop on in 1995, it was in danger of closing, as had many other local village shops over the years and redundancy provided a spur to take on a new challenge! One of the major factors in our decision was that it allowed us to remain in this special village and obtain a residential property that was considerably larger than we could have afforded in a stand-alone situation. Both our girls have grown up and moved on and we feel it’s time to close this chapter and hand the business on to younger people who can take it to next level.”

Jack Dudley, Senior Business Agent at Christie & Co’s Maidstone office is handling the sale and comments, “I am very excited to bring this busy, well presented store to the market. The current owners have developed strong ties with the local community during their 24 years of ownership and as such, have built a strong and loyal customer base. Situated in a strong trading position with limited local competition, this store represents an excellent opportunity for an operator looking for a new business venture with great potential.

“The convenience store market continues to be very busy with single site, regional and corporate operators actively looking for new acquisitions, so we expect strong levels of interest in this business.”

Christie & Co is seeking an asking price of £630,000 for the freehold interest of Stelling Minnis Stores.
