Lifestyle Express – Athwals is an owner-run convenience store located on the popular Scotter Road in Scunthorpe. This is a prime location for a convenience store, as it’s a residential area which lends itself to plenty of local shoppers and passing traffic and footfall, making it an integral part of the local community.

The store comes with a recently refurbished four-bed owner accommodation, and currently sells groceries and alcohol, but offers the potential to introduce an in-store bakery and to extend trading hours.

The site has been owned by the Athwal family for over 30 years and, back in 2017, they fully refitted the store which helped sales figures and increased profit. The Athwal family have decided to sell the store due to family reasons.

Kam Athwal comments, “We were really pleased with the marketing and selling of our store and would highly recommend Christie & Co to any operator looking to sell or buy. Even with their management of the legal process alongside solicitors Norton Connor, we were put at ease as we knew we had experts on hand.”

The new owners, Joseph Jegapriyan and Ann Sebastiampillai, who also own a convenience store in Doncaster, have purchased the site in order to expand their business portfolio. They have optimistic development plans for the site, which include improving the offering currently available to customers.

James Moore-Martin, Director (Retail), at Christie & Co, comments, “This acquisition completed within a quick timeframe and is an example of the buoyancy of the owner-operator convenience store market. We wish all the best to Joseph and Ann who, we are sure, will continue the success the site has seen thus far. They are extremely excited to begin operating the store and to become a vital part of the local community.”

The site was sold off an asking price of £275,000.
