The Chequers Inn, located on Toad Lane in Elston, was built around 1840 and has for over 170 years formed a focal point of village life, hosting everything from village dances to weddings.
Now owned by Abi Cutts and her partner David Tizzard and home to the FunFair Brewing Company, the two-story, pitched roofed pub is still a centrepoint for the village, and has expanded into a 10-barrel brewery housed at the rear of the property.
Retaining many of its traditional features, and maintaining a Victorian feel, the pub currently only opens four nights a week, although Friday nights at the Chequers have become something of a local attraction, with Abi and David making the most of the pub kitchen to tantalise local tastebuds, with over 70 homemade pizzas being sold to hungry patrons.
Tom Rawlinson, Business Agent at Christie & Co is handling the sale of the pub and said, “The Chequers Inn is a pub which has retained its integrity as a traditional watering hole, and this is shown in the way that all of the owners have kept the original beams in place, which add to the character of the pub.

The local area is stunning, the local schools are excellent and as the pub currently only operates limited opening hours, there is plenty of scope for a new owner to come in and extend both the hours and the food offering as well, especially as the Chequers is the only pub in Elston and the surrounding villages.”
Abi Cutts added, “Myself and David have been brewing on a small scale for over 12 years, and have been operating the pub for the last six.
“We’ve loved operating the Chequers and living in Elston, but now we feel the time is right to move onto the next thing.”
