Bed & breakfast in Grade II* listed Cornwall abbey sold

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has completed the sale of St Benet’s Abbey, a bed & breakfast situated in the village of Lanivet, close to Bodmin, in Cornwall.

St Benet’s Abbey is a Grade II* listed property dating back to 1411, originally built as part of an Abbey of Benedictine order, with the historic building sitting in 1.8 acres of gardens and maintaining the original chapel tower on the grounds. Internally, the bed & breakfast is well presented, providing eight en suite guest bedrooms.

Popular year round and especially in the summer months, Bodmin offers tourists an ideal British holiday destination and St Benet’s Abbey is perfectly placed to capture this trade, particularly those attracted to Lanivet’s picturesque and idyllic countryside setting.

Stephen Champion, Senior Business Agent based in Christie & Co’s Exeter office comments, “St Benet’s Abbey is a unique property featuring a rich history, the new owner saw the potential in this business after his first viewing and was quick to secure the property with an offer. With managers Katie Fitzgibbons and Dani Morgan continuing to run the business under the new ownership, it is in good hands, and we wish the new owner all the best for the future.

“The market for B&Bs and hotels across the South West remains buoyant with new entrants flooding to the region in search of their dream businesses. Lender appetite is also holding firm, with many of the high street and challenger banks competing for lending opportunities in this sector – a trend which shows no signs of stopping.”

St Benet’s Abbey was sold off a guide price of £720,000.
