Boscaswell Stores in the beautiful village of Pendeen has been sold

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, is delighted to announce the sale of Boscaswell Stores in the village of Pendeen in Penzance, Cornwall.

Boscaswell Stores is a well-established, fully managed convenience store which boasts an impressive turnover. This double fronted shop with Costcutter branded fascia offers a good range of produce popular with the local community, and serves the numerous campsites, self-catering apartments, and holiday cottages in the immediate area.

The store is located within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in the centre of the tourist village of Pendeen, Cornwall. Pendeen is circa seven miles west of Penzance and 10 miles south-east of St Ives. This stunning location is only a stone’s throw away from the film set of the BBC period drama, Poldark, which brings constant tourists to the village. The shop sits directly on the coastal road linking St Ives to Land’s End, and holds a unique position of being the first stop and shop from St Ives, benefiting greatly from the footfall brought about by a daily open-top bus which stops opposite the store.

The business was previously owned by Mr Oliver and Mrs Julie Hutchinson who have kept it regularly updated and well maintained throughout to ensure the highest level of quality, and took the store through an extensive refit program a few years ago. The couple decided to sell the business so that they could concentrate on their other business interests.

Mrs Hutchinson comments, “We have really enjoyed our time operating Boscaswell Stores and are delighted that the sale has now gone through so that we can concentrate on our other business. Dave Morris was a great support, helping us find a buyer and, during the process, keeping us regularly updated during an unprecedented time throughout lockdown. We would like to thank the local community and our customers for their support while we have been running the store.”

Boscaswell Stores has been purchased by Wessex Retail Ltd who are backed by the SPAR wholesale group based in the South West Appleby Westward.

Dave Morris, Director of Retail at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, comments, “It was a pleasure to act for Julie and Oliver, helping them to achieve a sale so that they can concentrate on their other business. Despite the challenging times that we have experienced in the UK over the last four months, the retail sector remains buoyant due to the support that local convenience stores give to their communities. I would like to wish Julie and Oliver all the best for their future and look forward to any changes that Wessex make to the store.”

Partner Kirill Bingham of Clark Willmott’s South West Corporate Commercial team represented Mr and Mrs Hutchinson during the sale.

Boscaswell Stores was sold at an undisclosed price.
