A former nightclub in Stockton which was once voted ‘Britain’s Best Disco’ and hosted stars such as Take That and Ant & Dec has been sold by specialist property adviser Christie + Co.

With a capacity for 1,600 people, Glam was Stockton’s biggest nightclub and boasted two dance floors and a £200,000 sound system. The substantial venue has now been acquired by Stockton Council for an undisclosed sum as part of its £38 million revamp of the High Street.

The former club was originally an Odeon cinema in the 1970s. It then turned in to popular venue The Mall before becoming Visage, Zanzibar and then later Glam.

Jon Patrick, Head of Leisure at Christie + Co comments: “The acquisition of Glam is clear evidence of Stockton council’s continued commitment to upgrading the High Street area and public realm in the town centre.”
