Durham riverside unit let to high end retailer and local restaurateur

A rare riverside opportunity located in the city centre of Durham has been let through specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co. The four floor site occupies an enviable position on Silver Street, the main retail and hospitality area of Durham, and overlooks the River Wear and Durham Castle and Cathedral.

Christie & Co was instructed by the landlord to create two new leases; the upper floors were let to a high end clothing retailer who first established themselves in Teesside and had been looking for a site in Durham for some time, whilst the river and lower ground level was let to a local husband and wife team with a vast amount of restaurant experience, who have previously owned a restaurant business in the area.

Both sites are set to see a substantial amount of investment and major refurbishments, with both operators benefiting from excellent footfall with the nearby bridge being one of the main pedestrian routes in to the city, and which also leads over to the new Riverwalk Shopping Centre which is set for completion in mid 2018.

David Cash, Business Agent at Christie & Co who handled the sale comments, “With a significant amount of new prime commercial space becoming available in Durham city within the next two years, this deal demonstrates that there is still demand for what may now be deemed secondary units.

“We received a lot of interest and multiple offers on this unit, particularly from bar operators and restaurateurs looking to establish themselves in the city.”
