Greater Manchester filling station sold to national operator

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has completed on the sale of Alkrington Service Station in Middleton, Greater Manchester, to a growing national forecourt operator.

Located on Manchester New Road, a busy A road linking the community of Middleton with Manchester City Centre, Alkrington Service Station comprises a BP branded forecourt and an attached convenience store trading under the Best One Xpress banner.

Previous owners, the Roked family, who also own another filling station within Greater Manchester, sought a sale after three decades of ownership in order to focus on other business interests outside of the petroleum sector.

The filling station has been purchased by Applegreen, a major petrol forecourt retailer in the Republic of Ireland with a significant and growing presence in the United Kingdom, currently numbering 112 sites. With a strong presence in the South East of the country, Alkrington Service Station will form a part of their rapidly expanding network of stations across the UK.

James Moore-Martin, Associate Director at Christie & Co handled the sale and comments, “We are delighted to have successfully brokered the sale of Alkrington Service Station on a new 20 year lease. As a blue-chip operator, Applegreen will be in a position to modernise and transform the site to serve the needs of both local residents and commuters.

“Interest in the petroleum sector remains strong and petrol filling stations brought to the market through Christie & Co continue to attract high levels of interest. Alkrington Service Station was no exception with multiple offers being received, resulting in a deal that satisfied both vendor and purchaser.”

Alkrington Service Station was sold in an off market transaction on a new leasehold basis.
