Minsterworth Garage sold following over 70 years of ownership

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has sold Minsterworth Garage, on behalf of the Hawkins family, following 71 years of ownership.

The site has previously traded as a vehicle recovery business, vehicle servicing centre and a small shop with a forecourt retailing fuel. The garage benefits from an excellent roadside location and frontage on the busy A48 from Gloucester to Chepstow.

Adrian and Nigel Hawkins acquired the site from their parents in 1947 and decided to sell in order to retire. Adrian and Nigel Hawkins comment, “Our family has operated forecourt related businesses in the area for over 70 years. It was the right time for us to retire and we are really pleased to have sold the site to Wayne and Jason Holder, for them to operate their haulage business from the site. We would like to thank David Morris at Christie & Co for his help and guidance throughout the sale process, and we wish Wayne and Jason all the best for the future.”

New owners and brothers, Jason and Wayne Holder operate M.B Holder and Sons, a haulage firm in Gloucester. Jason and Wayne sought to acquire a site with plenty of space as they were looking to relocate and expand their haulage business. They currently rent a site in Gloucester and when the freehold of Minsterworth Garage was put up for sale, it presented the ideal opportunity in the right location, with 1.7 acres of space and a good workshop that could accommodate heavy goods vehicles, the site was the perfect premises to operate a haulage business from.

Jason Holder of M.B Holder and Sons comments, “Minsterworth Garage is a great fit for our haulage business. We are delighted to have completed on the purchase and look forward to carrying out some work on the site prior to us moving in. Our intention is to completely re-locate M.B Holder and Sons before April and look forward to expanding the business in 2019. We would like to wish Adrian and Nigel all the best for their retirement.”

David Morris, Director at Christie & Co handled the sale and comments, “The sale of Minsterworth Garage demonstrates that the market is still strong for the right opportunity. In this case, the size of plot and location of Minsterworth Garage were the key selling features, attracting interest from multiple business owners and generating five offers.

“It was a pleasure acting for Adrian and Nigel and look forward to seeing the Holders change the garage to suit the requirements for their existing haulage business.”
