Set across four storeys on Skinner Street, a short walk away from the seafront, Stonehouse Emporium offers mixed use retail, licensed and leisure trading space. It currently includes a ground floor retail area which sells an eclectic mix of stock, ranging from Georgian fireplaces, violins and pianos to vintage clothing; two self-catering apartments set over the first, second and third floors; and a fully-licensed cafe/bar creperie in the basement, complete with a stylish servery and seating for 24 diners, plus a courtyard with a further 20 covers.

The whole property has been recently refurbished and restored, retaining many of its original features including stained glass doors, ceiling roses and cast iron-fronted Georgian fireplaces.

Whitby is famous for its fish and chips, beaches, and from featuring in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The latter has given rise to the popular Whitby Goth Weekend held there twice a year which attracts thousands of visitors from all over the country, as well as being a popular seaside resort.

David Cash, Business Agent in Christie & Co’s Newcastle office, comments, “The Stonehouse Emporium is currently being used as a base for the current owner’s antiques business, but there is certainly scope for alternative retail use. It could also benefit from a change of use to extend the letting rooms offering, subject to the necessary planning consent being granted.”

The business has been successfully run for the past 15 years by Numi Solomons who comments, “We have been increasing our holiday rentals year on year with many happy guests returning time after time. The shop and creperie also have many loyal followers and now we are retiring, we would like to give someone the opportunity to utilise the building in its prime trading position to its fullest potential.”

An asking price of £510,000 is being sought for the freehold of Stonehouse Emporium.
