Award winning Cumbrian inns & microbrewery reduce their asking price

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has reduced the asking price of the Strands Hotel and Screes Inn and brewery located in the beautiful hamlet of Nether Wasdale in the Lake District.

Positioned in the heart of the valley, the properties command stunning views of the surrounding fells and are perfectly positioned to explore the natural beauty of the Lake District including Wastwater and Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain. Originally built as a hotel and post house, many of the original features remain with log fires and wooden beams throughout both buildings. The Strands Hotel benefits from 14 individually designed en suite bedrooms, lounge bar, and restaurant, in addition to a three bedroom owner’s accommodation.

Current owners, husband and wife team, Mark and Lesley Corr purchased the Strands Hotel after falling in love with the 18th century inn during their very first trip to the village. In 2006, Mark opened an on-site microbrewery and recently opened the brewery shop. The brewery currently produces over 40 different styles of beer ranging from a 3.8% light and hoppy amber ale, a 5.0% Porter style ale through to their Barley Wine at 10.5%.  With a continued interest in craft ales, new owners would be well positioned to kick start their own brewery or add capacity to an existing brewery business.

In 2017, Mark and Lesley purchased the Screes Inn pub with a further eight en suite letting rooms. The Strands has remained at the centre of local life in the village, winning Pub of the Year 2016 for Western Cumbria by CAMRA – Campaign for Real Ale. Mr. Corr comments, “This is a very profitable business, which we have developed over the past 13 years, someone just needs to keep it up. If they want to build on the existing business there is room for lots more growth across all areas, especially within the Brewery. We feel that this is a very special place and we are sure the next owners will feel that too.”

Keith Stringer, Director at Christie & Co is handling the sale and comments, “The reduced asking price presents potential purchasers with a fantastic opportunity to be at the heart of village life. With a strong EBITDA and a stunning location these businesses are ideal for an owner operator seeking a profitable business in a truly idyllic part of the world.”

The Strands Hotel, Screes Inn, and Microbrewery are now on the market at a freehold asking price of £1,700,000.
