Luxury Somerset venue sold through Christie & Co to operators

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has completed on the sale of Crowcombe Court, a well-established private hire venue situated in the village of Crowcombe, Somerset, a few miles away from Exmoor National Park.

Crowcombe Court is a beautiful Grade I listed early Georgian mansion house set within 10 acres of parkland and landscaped gardens. Constructed in the 1730s for the local squire as a grand but comfortable home, the property retains most of its important historic features, including superb plasterwork, splendid chimney pieces and two original staircases.

Built as a statement of wealth and a house in which to entertain by Thomas Carew, Crowcombe Court was completed in 1739 to a design by Nathaniel Ireson, who also built Stourhead and Venn House. The style is described as English Regional Baroque and sits across the Queen Anne and Georgian periods.

Having purchased the property in 2011, previous owners, David and Kate Kenyon have restored this beautiful property to its former grandeur and have spent considerable time investing in the fabric of the building over the years. Additionally, they have created and developed a commercial business operation, specialising in wedding and events, on an exclusive use basis. They decided to sell Crowcombe Court in order to pursue a new business venture.

Due to the infrastructure in place, Crowcombe Court represents a superb opportunity for the new owners to further develop the trading performance of the business and to grow the wedding and events business, which already enjoys a great reputation, with significant year on year growth.

Crowcombe Court has been purchased Stuart Guy, who owns The Ravenswood, a weddings and private events venue in Sussex. He plans on building on the current levels of trade and further developing the business. He comments, “We are really happy to add this stunning venue to our portfolio of wedding venues, it truly is a gem!”

Stephen Champion, Associate Director at Christie & Co, handled the sale and comments, “We are delighted to have brokered the sale of Crowcombe Court on behalf of David and Kate Kenyon. The business unsurprisingly received significant interest from a range of business and residential buyers when launched to the market, receiving multiple offers. We have no doubt Stuart Guy’s significant experience in the sector will enable him to take this stunning wedding venue from strength to strength.”
