Hut Green Stores had been inherited by the previous owner, Claire Smith, who subsequently owned and ran it for 15 years, developing it into a community supported and well-regarded village store. She decided to sell as she wishes to take up a new career in accountancy and comments, “After much deliberation, we made the decision to sell our family convenience store and flat in December 2018. After various visits from several agents we opted for Christie & Co, largely due to meeting Jon Booth as his professional knowledge, directness, confidence and our belief in his abilities to sell our business was immediate and our instincts paid off, within 24 hours, Jon had found us a buyer at the full asking price.
“The process at times has been complicated, but Jon, true to his word, has supported us throughout and was always available for us to speak to and deal with any issues as soon as they arose. The sale completed in June 2019 and I cannot thank Jon and the team at Christie & Co for the work they have put in to make this happen.”
The new owners are Balbir and Dav Kular, a father and son team who own and operate the village post office and Premier convenience store in Eggborough. Balbir comments, “We have known Jon for around five years and have friends who have used his services, when we took over the post office in Eggborough around three years ago, he showed genuine interest in our plans for the place and kept us informed of new opportunities in the area. We were delighted when he brought this opportunity straight to our door as it is an obvious key acquisition for us. We plan to refurbish and rebrand as a Londis and look forward to further serving the community in and around Eggborough with the new look Hut Green Stores.”
Jon Booth, Senior Business Agent at Christie & Co who handled the sale comments, “It was great to work with Claire and her family and I wish her all the very best with her future plans. The Spar store at Eggborough represents a fantastic acquisition for the new owners and we wish them all the very best with their future plans. Eggborough is a well located and, importantly, growing village and the store is well established within the community. This type of business rarely comes to the market and demand for such sites is very much still outstripping supply.”
