Hayers of Weston-super-Mare lease store to local retailer

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has created a new lease for a Premier branded convenience store in Weston-super-Mare, on behalf of the Hayer family.

Situated on Birnbeck Road, the store benefits from an excellent trading position at the northerly end of the town’s seafront, within a good residential catchment.

Ranj and Gully Hayer operate four convenience stores and two fish and chip shops in Weston and decided to lease the Premier branded store in order to concentrate their time on other ongoing projects, including a potential development at one of their other stores. The family will retain the freehold property at Birnbeck and the flat above the store as part of the deal.

The Hayers comment, “We decided to create a new lease on our Birnbeck store so that we no longer had the day to day responsibilities that come with running this busy location. We asked Dave Morris at Christie & Co to run a discrete process to find a buyer for the store and we are really pleased with the outcome. Creating a new lease allows us to hand over the day to day running of the store and will allow us to concentrate our time on other projects that we have ongoing. We remain committed to retailing through our other stores in Weston.”

The new owner is an experienced retailer who already operates an independent convenience store in Weston-super-Mare and was keen to acquire a second store in the area. After seeing how busy the Birnbeck store is, he didn’t want to miss the opportunity to quickly strike a deal with Hayers to take the lease allowing him to operate the business.

The new owner comments, “I am delighted to be taking over the store, adding it to my existing business. The store is a good fit for me and the Hayers have created a good customer base to continue to build on. I would like to thank the Hayers for their help with the process and I can’t wait to start trading.”

Dave Morris, Director at Christie & Co handled the sale and comments, “The Hayers’ store presented a great opportunity for the right retailer. Having known Ranj and Gully for a number of years, it was great to help them lease out this store, giving them the opportunity to concentrate on other ongoing projects. The store is a good fit for the new owner, who I’m sure will develop the business further.”

The leasehold interest in the convenience store was sold for an undisclosed sum.
