Richmond café bistro gains new owners through Christie & Co

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has sold Barretts Cafe Bistro, in the North Yorkshire town of Richmond, to first time buyers with experience in the hospitality sector.

Having been trading for the last two years, Barretts has established itself as a popular restaurant in the centre of Richmond, catering for up to 56 covers, and providing a private dining space on the first floor for small functions. The restaurant includes a fully equipped catering kitchen which was designed by the previous owners, who have set up many professional kitchens during their career. Sitting on Rosemary Lane, close to the main market square, Barretts is in a busy and accessible area, ideally placed for the high footfall passing through.

Previous owners, Adrian & Gill Barrett decided to sell the business having been in the industry a long time and felt it was time for a change. They comment, “We’re delighted to have sold the business to Kerry & Dan, as we think they’re absolutely perfect for the place. They’re young and enthusiastic with bags of experience and we’re sure they’ll be very successful.

“Christie & Co did a great job of managing the sale process; the deal wasn’t straight forward and had lots of moving parts, but David Cash was thankfully on hand throughout to make sure the sale completed.”

The restaurant has been purchased by Kerry Robson and her partner Dan Johnson, first time buyers with a wealth of experience in the hospitality and catering industry, who plan to build on the well established and profitable business. Kerry comments, “I am absolutely thrilled to have purchased my own business. The sale of Barretts went through a few weeks ago now and we’ve been really busy since taking over. We’re excited to see what the future holds for us here and look forward to welcoming all customers, old and new!”

David Cash, Senior Business Agent at Christie & Co handled the sale and comments, “Businesses such as Barretts are proving very popular with first time purchasers, whether those very experienced in the sector, such as Kerry & Dan, taking the first step run their own business, or first time entrants industry looking for a change of career or lifestyle.

“Location is key to the success of this type of business, and Richmond is a bustling market town with a healthy local and tourist trade. Barretts has traded exceptionally well since it opened a few years ago, which I’m sure will continue to do so with Kerry at the helm!”

Barretts Café Bistro was sold off an asking price of £120,000 for the leasehold interest.
