Known as the UK’s most southerly city, Truro is a vibrant centre of shopping, culture and impressive architecture in the heart of Cornwall, making it a great base to explore the region. The Merchant House Hotel is well-positioned within the city, just a leisurely ten-minute stroll from the picturesque town centre.

The substantial period style property has benefitted from a number of additions and renovations since being acquire by previous owner Nicky Whittaker’s in 2012, and offers potential for further development.

The business has been purchased by Blonde & Grey Ltd, set up by experienced hotel operators and consultants Tim and Hazel Brocklebank, who also run The Brocklebank Partnership Consultancy. They previously owned The Rosevine, near Portscatho, which they sold in 2016.

They comment “ As we take over the business, we wish Nicky well.  Being local to Truro we know the hotel well, and saw a great opportunity to purchase Merchant’s House, and to take the hotel forwards. We look forward to sharing our plans for the hotel in the very near future.”

Stephen Champion, Director in Christie & Co’s Hospitality team brokered the sale and comments, “We are delighted to have successfully brokered the sale of Merchant House on behalf of our client, Nicky Whittaker. The hotel has a profitable track record and has seen year on year growth under our clients stewardship, so it’s no surprise that the hotel attracted bids from multiple parties. Tim and Hazel Brocklebank’s years of experience in the sector stand them in good stead to continue improving this business and we wish them every success in the future.”

“Despite the headwinds caused by the Covid pandemic, so far 2021 has proven to be a very buoyant year for hotel sales at Christie & Co, with significant pent-up demand and renewed bank support helping to keep the market moving.
