Montrose institution comes to the market through Christie & Co

The George Hotel, a local institution in the coastal resort town of Montrose nestled between Dundee and Aberdeen in Angus, Scotland has been brought to the market through specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co.

Steeped in history, the town sits on a natural harbour, the Montrose Basin with a three mile long beach overlooking the North Sea. Montrose enjoys lots of local tourist attractions, including the town’s famous golf links, which features the sixth oldest course in the world, attracting golfers from far and wide.

Occupying a prominent corner position in the town centre, the traditional sandstone building was constructed in 1814 and is set over four levels with a modern extension to the rear, boasting 25 en suite bedrooms, restaurant and lounge, which can accommodate 120 altogether. The hotel also offers a function room of 120 covers ideal for hosting parties and functions during the summer months and private gardens, which serve as a popular setting for wedding photographs and drinks receptions.

Benefitting from multiple streams of income and an excellent reputation among the locals and visitors alike, The George Hotel presents the opportunity for a new owner to take on a profitable and well-established hotel in Montrose.

Having purchased the hotel in 1990, current owner, Mrs Trish Douglas is now looking to retire from the business and spend time travelling. Mrs Douglas comments, "I've loved every minute of the last 27 years at The George. I have decided to sell to spend more time with my family and hope that whoever takes over has as much enjoyment and success as I have had."

Stuart Drysdale, Associate Director at Christie & Co’s Glasgow office, who is handling the sale comments; “The George Hotel represents a fantastic opportunity for either an experienced operator or first time buyer to enter the market to take on a popular and well positioned hotel, with multiple income streams and plenty of scope to develop the business. We expect The George Hotel will attract interest from both individual and group operators.”

Christie & Co is seeking an asking price of £850,000 for the freehold of The George Hotel.
