Fairshaw Rigg, an award-winning Bed & Breakfast business in the midst of the idyllic Northumberland countryside has come on the market with specialist property adviser Christie + Co.

Perfectly positioned to explore Hadrian's Wall, Northumberland National Park, the North Pennines AONB and the Tyne Valley, as well as the magnificent coastal castles and shoreline of the North East, the spacious barn conversion is a delightful four bedroom family home with three additional superb en-suite luxury letting rooms.

Paul Shrimpton and his wife Kathryn have owned the property since 1996, converting and extending the building to provide the letting accommodation which they commenced trading in 2010.

Paul comments: “For many years I worked in Financial Services Sales Management but the urge to escape the rat race and to work from home, for ourselves, was always a dream of ours. Over the last five years, Kathryn and I have built the reputation of the business which is based upon quality guest service, luxurious accommodation and local, home cooked food. We now turnover well in excess of £60,000 per annum which in turn makes us a profit approaching £40,000. We are  Number 1 on Trip Adviser for over 60 B&B’s in the Hexham area.”

The Shrimpton’s are looking to sell in order to expand their very successful Alpaca breeding and knitwear businesses which they currently run alongside the bed and breakfast.

Paul adds: “We have been breeding Black Alpacas since 2006 and currently have a herd of 19. In that time we have had nearly 40 births and have bred two national champions. Alpaca yarn is very fine and warm and hence valuable; all of our guests sleep under duvets filled with alpaca fibre.”

Mark Worley, Director at Christie + Co is handling the sale. He believes there will be a high level of interest from those seeking a lifestyle change. He says: “Fairshaw Rigg is a beautiful property which has been kept to the highest of standards and really must be seen in person to do it justice. If you are looking for a steady business with the opportunity for growth, positioned within gorgeous surroundings, then look no further.”
