This was the first time in 28 years that the profitable Premier-branded convenience store and post office in the Welsh county of Blaenau Gwent was offered for sale, having been operated by the previous owner, David and Debbie Walters since 1993.

David comments, “We would like to thank Jamie Williams of Christie & Co for holding our hand through this often emotional time as we sold our life's work. We ran the shop for almost 30 years and now hope to get a better work-life balance and enjoy our children and grandchildren. We wish the new owners every success and hope with a new younger, fresh approach, the community and owners will all benefit. Good luck and health to all.”

The business was sold free of symbol-group ties and benefits from steady local and passing trade throughout the year. The successful new owner, Thushjanthi Ananthakumar is an existing operator with another store less than 15 miles away. She has acquired a well-positioned business, with further potential to increase profit margins by introducing new products and services.

Thushjanthi comments, “Thank you Jamie and Christie & Co for helping us secure the store. We are overwhelmed and wishing David and Debbie a very happy retirement. We are planning to improve the shop in the near future and look forward to serving the local community.”

Jamie Williams from Christie & Co adds, “Ashvale Stores is a fantastic business which generated over 15 viewings and more than 10 offers, indicating that the market remains strong for convenience stores and post offices. There is a large pool of active buyers seeking new opportunities such as this, and a lack of available businesses so I highly recommend getting in touch if you operate a similar type of store and may be considering a sale.”
