The Bowkett family took on the store eight years ago, seeing an opportunity to grow the business and add to the two stores they operated at the time in Worcestershire. They supplied the store with their own brand meat and butchery products, which they also wholesale to other shops and forecourts in the region.

The Directors of G.H Bowkett comment, “We developed the NISA store in Twyning as far as we were able to and have enjoyed supporting the local community. It was time for us to move the store on. We wish the new owner, Jag Purewal and his team all the best for the future. We would like to thank Dave Morris at Christie & Co for his support in helping us sell the store.”

New owner, Jag Purewal and his business partners, who are experienced SPAR retailers, saw the store as the perfect addition to their existing portfolio of SPAR stores and investments across Worcestershire and the West Midlands. The team also operates Drapers SPAR located in the village of Bredon near Twyning and felt that the two sites would complement each other.

Jag and his team have already started a complete re-fit of the store, paying particular attention to enhancing the fresh foods and off licence offer. After the refurbishment is complete and the store is fully merchandised, the NISA convenience store will be reopened by the 15th of March.

Jag Purewal comments, “We are delighted with the acquisition of the NISA store in Twyning and are excited to develop the store further with the assistance of SPAR Wholesaler AF Blakemore & Son. It is an excellent addition to our group and should complement the SPAR Bredon, that we already operate in the area.”

Dave Morris, Director at Christie & Co handled the sale and comments, “The NISA in Twyning is a great acquisition for Jag and his business partners. With their experience as SPAR retailers, we are sure they will continue to develop the business in the same way the Bowkett family did when they bought the store. It was a pleasure acting for the Bowkett family and we will continue to advise them on their other business interests.

“The market remains positive for convenience stores despite the wider pressures on the retail market.”

The leasehold interest of the store was sold for an undisclosed sum and included a hairdressers and residential accommodation above.
