One of Aberdeen’s most famous local’s, the Kittybrewster, has been sold in a deal brokered by specialist property adviser Christie + Co.

The historic property has been acquired by David Reid, a well-known Aberdonian and former director at Christie + Co who has sold countless pubs, restaurants and hotels throughout Scotland over the past 25 years. He is now the owner of Doric Pub Co Ltd, which owns the Brig ‘O’ Dee Bar - the first pub drivers see when crossing the bridge into Aberdeen.

He comments: “I had been looking to expand the Doric Pub Co Ltd for over a year and nothing that I looked at seemed exactly right. I have built up a good management team in Aberdeen and with Scott Strathdee moving from the Brig ‘O’ Dee Bar to run the Kittybrewster Bar and Nicola Williams taking over the running of the Brig ‘O’ Dee Bar, this purchase was the perfect fit and gives the company ideal representation in the south and north sides of Aberdeen.”

David Reid’s acquisition ends a spell of more than 30 years of the property being owned by Andrew and Ann Chapan, who will now take a well-deserved retirement.

They comment: “As a family, we have a huge emotional attachment to the Kittybrewster Bar and its customers who have to be the best in the world. However, we feel the time is right for us to hang up our bar aprons, spend time with family and friends, and see a bit of the world. David Reid is the perfect person to develop the business even further and we wish him and his management team every success for the future.""

Jamie Jackson of Christie + Co’s Edinburgh office who handled the sale, comments: “It is a rare thing to come across two such devoted publicans who have worked so hard to create, maintain and develop such a superb business that has stood the test of time and I am delighted that we achieved success for Andrew and Anne at a time where there is some negativity in Aberdeen due to the low oil price. It just goes to show that quality will always sell. David Reid is a property expert himself and I was not surprised that when we marketed this highly profitable pub for sale at offers over £395,000, he was very quick to snap it up!”

“I wish the Chapmans every happiness in their retirement and David Reid and the Doric Pub Co all the best in their continuing expansion."
