Located on Market Street, Ford’s Discount Store has operated in the town since 1960, selling everything from sellotape to hosiery. Now, after trading from its current prominent home on Lutterworth’s main street for over two decades, owner Robert Ford has taken the decision to retire, and has sold the store to local retailer Heather Craven in a deal brokered by specialist business property adviser Christie & Co.
Ms. Craven, of Craven’s Builders, now plans to convert the ground floor of the property into start-up business units and the upstairs into office accomodation.
David Branch, Business Agent at Christie & Co’s Nottingham office brokered the sale and said, “Ford’s has been a fixture in Lutterworth since 1960, and has traded from its current location on Market Street for the last 26 years.
“Market Street is obviously a prominent location in Lutterworth, and is a prime area from which to run a retail business. The area experiences a high level of footfall thanks to the facilities nearby, including the Town Hall. The business has a very large frontage onto the main road, which attracts a lot of passing trade, and there is huge potential for expanding the scope and opening times of the store.
“We’d like to wish Mr Ford all the very best for his impending retirement and Ms Craven the best of luck in her new venture.”
