York city centre restaurant & deli sold to award-winning operators

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has sold the award winning Le Langhe Restaurant and Deli which is located on Peasholme Green, one of the main roads into York city centre.

The vendor, Ottavio Bocca, built the business on authentic Italian produce, personally importing goods to sell in the deli and serve in the restaurant.  The extensive selection of Italian wine is sold wholesale to other York restaurants, as well as offered to diners in the restaurant.  The restaurant has previously been featured in the 2015 Michelin Hotel & Restaurant Guide, as well as the 2015 Waitrose Good Food Guide.

The buyers are Adam and Lovaine Humphrey who have recently returned from Sydney, Australia where they owned and operated the award-winning restaurant, Arras and Café/Bakery Arras Too. Their intention is to bring Arras back to Adam’s hometown of York, serving their unique style of Modern European food.

Occupying the ground and first floors of a detached building, Le Langhe has a deli and retail area to the ground floor and a first floor restaurant with seating for 50.  The restaurant also has a rear patio area and is one of the few restaurants inside York’s walls with external space.

Oliver Brown, Business Agent at Christie & Co’s Leeds office brokered the sale and said, “This is the latest in a recent string of successful sales for us in York, following Monroe’s on Gillygate and The Parish on Micklegate showing that the best property in the city is continuing to come through us. In 2014 our sale of the Cedar Court Hotel, a landmark on the Yorkshire hotel scene, cemented our place as the agent to use for significant sales in York.  Le Langhe continues this process of moving successful businesses from established operators into safe hands.”

Le Langhe Restaurant and Deli was sold on a leasehold basis for an undisclosed sum.
