The Bell rings out for a new owner

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has been appointed to market The Bell in the picturesque village of Boxford, just outside Newbury, Berkshire.

The Bell is a traditional country pub which has a welcoming atmosphere and excellent reputation and occupies a prominent position in the heart of the community, attracting custom from surrounding towns as well as the local horseracing community and visitors of Highclere Castle and Newbury Race Course.

The large brick built mock Tudor detached building which dates back to the early part of the 19th century offers a 30 cover bar, 35 cover restaurant, ladies and gentlemen’s toilets, commercial kitchen, 11 en suite  double, twin and single letting rooms and two bedroom owner’s accommodation.

Set in its own grounds of three quarters of an acre, the property incorporates an extensive, partly covered, outside seating area for 80 guests and parking for up to 25 vehicles.

Current owners Paul and Helen Lavis have operated the business for the past 30 years offering a consistently high level of service but are now looking to retire from the sector.

Mark Loveday of Christie & Co’s Reading office who is handling the sale comments, “The business is ideally placed for a new owner to run themselves or under management, taking full advantage of the reputation Paul and Helen have built up and we are expecting a high level of interest.”

A freehold asking price in excess of £900,000 is being sought by Christie & Co.
