Located in the village of Golant, The Cormorant Hotel occupies an elevated position enjoying uninterrupted views of the River Fowey and beyond. The area is a magnet for tourists due to several attractions nearby, including; the Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, National Trust stately homes, the coastal footpath and many beautiful sandy beaches.
Our client, Mary Tozer, purchased the business in 2006 and developed The Cormorant into a popular hotel, bar & restaurant. Under our client's ownership the restaurant acquired two AA rosettes and the business benefited from a high percentage of repeat custom due to its tranquil location, uninterrupted views and exceptional customer service. They have decided now is the time to retire and to take life a little easier.
The business has now ceased trading and has been sold to independent developers; Green & Rock, who work in partnership with W K Gelston Contractors, a highly regarded local construction business based in Lostwithiel, Cornwall. John Orriss, Director and Founder of Green & Rock, commented “In 2020 we will be commencing this very bespoke project with the construction of 9 luxury riverside homes on the site of the Cormorant Hotel. Rarely does an opportunity arise for homes with such stunning views. Our aim is to make this a truly landmark development in Cornwall, developed sensitively to respect the natural beauty of its surrounds.”
Stephen Champion, Associate Director at Christie & Co, handled the sale and comments, “It has been a pleasure working with our client Mary Tozer to facilitate her exit from the business. We look forward to seeing Green & Rock’s finished development.”
