Bigg Market is one of Newcastle’s most established eating and drinking quarters, and The Gentleman occupies a highly visible location with easy access to the renowned “Diamond Strip”.

As well as being a popular bar and restaurant, The Gentleman is also host to live Jazz bands and has quickly become part of the established drinking circuit in the city centre.  The premises underwent a complete re-fit in October 2015 and now boasts a contemporary internal eating/drinking area arranged over a split level ground floor trading area.  A modern food and cocktail menu was introduced at the time of the refurbishment, which prove popular with visitors to the bar.

The market dates back to the Middle Ages, when it was the site of a thriving market place.  It is home to 31 listed buildings and is earmarked for circa £3 m of investment in the form of the Bigg Market Project, which aims to revive the historic heart of Newcastle.

David Cash, Business Agent at Christie & Co’s Newcastle office is handling the sale comments, “Located in a prominent position in amongst other licensed and leisure premises including bars, restaurants and nightclubs, The Gentleman forms part of a long established eating and drinking circuit, in Newcastle’s Bigg Market.

“These particular premises would suit all kinds of operators, from first-timers to experienced, ‘old hands’ in the sector. The high level of footfall into the market means that this would provide a prime opportunity for the right operator to make a mark on the Newcastle leisure circuit.”
