The business is located in England's only mountain forest and has stunning views down the valley towards the Skiddaw mountain range. Current owners, Liam and Kath Berney, who have run the nine-bed operation since 2002, are now looking to retire.

The Cottage in the Wood is established as one of the leading ‘Foodie’ destinations in Cumbria and also offers boutique style accommodation. Over the years, the restaurant and accommodation has won a range of national and regional tourism awards, featuring in most of the leading guides including the Michelin, Good Food and Good Hotel Guides. Most recently, the restaurant has gained a third rosette awarded by the AA for culinary excellence, an accolade achieved only by the top 10% of restaurants.

Tom O’Malley, Business Agent at Christie & Co who is handling the sale, comments, “Liam and Kath have put everything into the business over the years and because of this, they have reaped the rewards.

“As a very well-established business with a strong reputation in a unique setting, it would suit anybody with a passion for food and drink: from someone who has worked in the hospitality and catering industry and wants to try their hand at running a successful operation to an existing or multiple operator.”
