The Trooper Inn is renowned as one of Hampshire’s finest old coaching inns, a county blessed with the natural beauty of the coast and country, two national parks, a thriving culture and an abundance of history and heritage.

The inn is perched on the highest point in Hampshire, within the picturesque boundaries of the South Downs National Park, approximately two miles north west of Petersfield. Larger nearby cities within easy access include Winchester, Chichester and Southampton. London is also only an hour and a half away by car or train. As such, the inn attracts a mixture of local, leisure and weekend break guests, with corporate input throughout the week.

The traditional pub and restaurant sit within an original building which dates back to the 19th century. A modern extension to the rear has added eight contemporary en-suite letting bedrooms in keeping with the character of the main building, a larger restaurant and additional staff living accommodation.

The restaurant has significant repeat patronage and provides a broad menu featuring locally sourced produce. During the busy summer months, a patio and garden to the side and rear of the building, is laid out with bench and trestle tables for 25 additional covers and offers sweeping views of the surrounding countryside.

The former owners, Sarah and Hassan Matini comment, “We are delighted to have sold the pub and would like to thank Christie & Co for their hard work and support throughout the sales process.  We wish the new owners well and have no doubt they will make it a real success.”

Richard Wood, Associate Director – Licensed and Hospitality at Christie & Co who handled the sale comments, “We are delighted to have facilitated the sale of the Trooper Inn. Despite the ongoing difficulties that COVID-19 is bringing to the hospitality industry we continue to see strong interest in freehold pubs throughout the region, particularly those with accommodation that can take advantage of the growing staycation market.”
