Situated on King Street, just off the High Street in the heart of town, Y Delyn is a unique and cherished destination venue, renowned for its warm atmosphere and authentic approach towards high quality music, food and beer.

Mold itself is a large and thriving market town, regarded as having a rich dining, arts and culture scene due to its many restaurants, café and the Theatre Clwyd, a major regional community facility which hosts major plays, concerts, conferences and events.

Y Delyn Wine Bar has remained under same family ownership for the past 31 years; beginning in 1989 when Richard and Eileen Kavanagh from Ireland, visited Mold on a trip to North Wales and decided to purchase what was then known as King’s Wine Bar, as they were looking for a new direction.

The beginnings of Y Delyn were inspired by Richard’s many travels with the Merchant Navy, his love of great beer and the traditional bar cultures of North Europe. Y Delyn became known as a specialist importer of quality Belgian, Dutch and German beers.

In 2007, when Richard and Eileen decided to retire, Martina their daughter chose to pause her own extensive travels to take over Y Delyn. Since this time, Martina has taken the venues offering to a new level, with a focus on both quality, slow cooked food and dedicated specialty music. This saw her create a menu of authentic food and tapas inspired by her own travels to Morocco, the Middle East and southern Europe and built the venues reputation as one of North Wales’ most popular cultural hubs.

The venue is now host to a popular events calendar featuring live jazz, traditional Welsh and Irish music, and regularly collaborates with the North Wales Jazz Society, making it the venue of choice for musicians, artists and the cast and staff from the nearby Theatre Clwyd.

Martina comments, “It is a wonderful business, built on a diamond foundation.  I know the next owners can easily build on our current offering and take the business to a new level.”

The restaurant is set in a substantial and attractive three-storey period property, with a great deal of rustic charm, which creates a unique and special ambience for guests. The main trading area caters for circa 80 covers and this is complemented by a covered external courtyard area. The first floor features a spacious size dining room and bar, which serves as a functions and events space. The third storey is currently unused but with its pitched ceilings, it has potential to provide a very interesting accommodation space.

Tom O’Malley, Senior Business Agent in Christie & Co’s Hospitality team is handling the sale and comments, “The sale of Y Delyn Wine and Tapas Bar presents an excellent opportunity for a wide range of prospective buyers to acquire a highly successful and iconic wine bar in the heart of an attractive market town in North Wales. There is significant potential to grow the business by extending the opening hours and expanding the venue, subject to the correct planning permissions so we expect to receive a great deal of interest.”

Y Delyn is currently on the market with a guide price of £440,000 for the freehold interest.
