The business, a 16th century food-led freehold inn, was previously owned by Noreen Hoskin and run by her daughter Nicola having been in the family for several years.

The site has been extended several times and now encompasses a lounge bar and restaurant area for 400 covers, a main bar, a function room, a large outdoor playground and a large beer garden.

It currently caters for functions such as weddings and birthdays as well as children’s parties in their ballpool and activity areas. Customers also have use of the pub’s skittle alley, pool table and dart boards.

Stephen Champion, Business Agent in Christie & Co’s Exeter office, comments, “In recent years St Austell has purchased a number of high profile premises through Christie & Co, including the Port Gaverne Hotel and the prominent building on Exeter’s quayside which St Austell turned into the Samuel Jones.

“The sale of The Cat & Fiddle Inn is another example of the appetite and demand for large pubs in desirable locations within the Devon area. We are in regular talks with both pub companies as well as smaller multiple operators looking to purchase pubs within the region with the potential to be developed into managed house operations.”
