Situated on Union Street, the pub has been a local institution within the city centre leisure circuit for many years, originally trading as a restaurant when it first opened in 1870 before becoming a pub in the early 1900s.

Having been operated under family ownership for almost 50 years, they felt that now was the right time to sell as the collective family looked towards retirement. Fronted on a day-to-day basis by Graham Watson and Andy Juroszek, they comment, “Obviously, we will miss the many friends, both staff and customers, past and present, who have made our time as custodians of The Grill so rewarding and enjoyable. We wish the new owners, McGinty’s Group, all the best for the future.”

The business has been purchased by the McGinty’s Group, experienced Aberdeen-based operators who now increase their portfolio to eight sites with this latest purchase. Allan Henderson, Director at McGinty’s Group, comments, “We are delighted to have agreed a deal to purchase The Grill and importantly, retain the venue as a locally owned independent business.

“As witnessed when the news of the sale announcement was made, The Grill has a very strong affiliation with the people of the North East and it was always a venue that we had respectfully admired, so when the rare opportunity arose, it seemed like the perfect fit for our business.

“The Grill truly is an Aberdeen institution that has established itself as a great business over the years. We look forward to continuing on its success whilst adding another iconic venue to our growing portfolio of outlets.”

Stuart Drysdale, Director at Christie & Co who handled the sale, comments, “We knew that there would be high demand for this local institution, given its reputation and position within the city’s central pub circuit. The McGinty’s Group have numerous successful outlets in and around the city and we are confident they will continue to thrive on the excellent reputation that has been built up over the years.

“The strong levels of interest we have seen from both local and UK based operators highlights the continued demand for well-established, and importantly, consistently performing businesses in the pub sector.”

The Grill Public House was sold off an asking price £995,000 for the freehold going concern.
