The Bristol office of specialist property adviser Christie + Co is delighted to announce the sale of the 4-Star Ammonite Lodge in Chard.

Conveniently located at the top of the high street, Ammonite Lodge is a quaint 18th century characterful cottage featuring seven letting rooms, a sizeable owners’ accommodation and a barn with planning permission to convert into further accommodation.

The outgoing vendors, Clare and Andrew Ashmore, owned Ammonite Lodge for two years. During this time they worked tirelessly restoring the guesthouse, improving the fixtures, fittings and the quality of the service. The hard work paid off in 2014 when they were awarded a Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence.

With Andrew returning to his previous job working for a large hospitality group, the couple felt that it was time to hand over the baton,  leaving a fantastic opportunity for new owners to inherit a well-run business with plenty of upside.

Ammonite Lodge has been acquired by James and Katherine Macadie from Hereford, who fell in love with the property upon first viewing. While James and Katherine both have hospitality experience, this will be their first owner-operated venture.

Commenting on the sale, James says: “It has always been our dream to operate our own guest house and Katherine and I are very excited about the opportunity to operate Ammonite Lodge. Clare and Andrew have done an excellent job over the past 2 years and we are ready to continue to extend a warm welcome and offer superlative service to all our guests”

Christie + Co agent Sophia Sangchi handled the sale. She comments: “Ammonite Lodge was launched to the market in March this year and we had a Christie Finance brokered deal agreed with James Macadie in under one month. This is further evidence that the hospitality market is showing very positive signs of recovery.”

She adds: “I was thrilled to introduce James and Katherine to Ammonite Lodge. Their enthusiasm and experience will ensure the business continues to offer a fantastic service to guests and I wish them all the best for the future.”
