Situated on the main parade within the village of Nether Poppleton, between an assortment of hair and beauty salons, cafés and butchers, Poppleton Convenience Store and Post Office is perfectly placed to provide essential services to the local community, with an extensive range of both financial and postal products, serving local residents and customers from surrounding areas.

Features of the store include two double sided gondola aisles, LED lighting, modern flooring, a dedicated alcohol section for chilled wines and beers. There is an internal ATM and two open plan Post Office counters, one serving as a dual counter with grocery sales, under counter tobacco storage and impressive spirit display behind.

The site is currently owned by Mr Chris Bolton, who acquired the store in 2014, then opened the Post Office service in August 2015. With a secured footfall, and with many banks closing on the high street, the store’s service goes from strength to strength.

Mr Bolton has decided to sell in order to focus efforts on his other business ventures in West Yorkshire. He comments, “I chose this particular convenience store as I believed in its potential development by incorporating the Post Office installation, this has proven to be a success. Since this upgrade, an internal facelift and a supply chain partnership along with numerous Yorkshire suppliers, the store has provided varied and competitive produce for sale.”

Andrew Birnie, Director at Christie & Co, who is handling the sale, comments, “Businesses like this typically sell to first-time buyers looking to work for themselves. Ideally a local person living nearby since there is no on-site accommodation. This is a lovely private housing estate and presumably a nice place to spend your working hours. If buyers are from out of the area, then it poses the chance to work nearby to the popular tourist destination which is York city centre. We took this to market just when the Coronavirus started. The continuity of the business has been maintained and the local community have supported strongly in these difficult times. New and existing customers are using the store and finding the price and range of stock is a pleasant surprise. Our client has said that they hope to retain some of these new customers once people get back to some sort of normality.”

Poppleton Village Store and Post Office is currently on the market - price on application. It is available leasehold with a renewed lease secured for 10 years.
