Former Nisa store in South Normanton to be given new lease of life after sale

Specialist business property advisor, Christie & Co, is delighted to announce the freehold sale of the former South Normanton NISA Local convenience store in South Normanton, Derbyshire.

The former store is located on a busy thoroughfare opposite a small parade of shops and close to a Co Op supermarket. The business was forced to close following a suspected arson attack in 2018. Following this, the owners applied for and obtained planning permission to redevelop the site creating three retail units to the ground floor with flats above.

After launching the store to the open market on behalf of owners, Christie & Co received interest from multiple independent operators attracted by the store’s potential and the development opportunity that the planning permission presented.

Dave Morris, Director in Christie & Co’s Retail team handled the sale and comments, “The store presented a good opportunity for an incoming retailer, being a blank canvas to either redevelop or to re-open as a convenience store, with scope to build flats above in the future. The property market remains resilient despite the challenges the country has faced since the COVID 19 pandemic and this demand is unlikely to change certainly in the near future.”

The former owners comment, “We instructed Dave to sell our site just after the first COVID lockdown and he has been very communicative and supportive since then. We would like to thank Dave Morris at Christie & Co for his help in getting the sale completed. James Christian and Rebbecca Beecroft from Elliot Mather solicitors provided an excellent service helping us to complete the sale in a very short timeframe. We wish the buyers all the best with their plans for the site.”

The new owners who are experienced retailers from Birmingham are keen to re-open the store as soon as possible, following a complete refurbishment of the site and have already spoken to a number of symbol groups to discuss development options.
