Quinii’s, the former Malaysian restaurant in York has been sold in a deal brokered by specialist property adviser Christie + Co. The restaurant on Tower Street has opened its doors as ’29 States – The Indian Kitchen’.

The leasehold interest in the property has been acquired by Jaswant Mehra, a celebrity chef in India who has featured in over 300 episodes on local television cookery shows. While working in the UK, he has been a head chef at Aagrah and was chef de partie at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Leeds. He has also taken part in cookery demonstrations, appearing with UK celebrity chefs James Martin and Kenny Atkinson.

Oliver Brown of Christie + Co’s Leeds office handled the sale. He comments: “This sale shows the demand for businesses in the York region and the ongoing rejuvenation and growth of York city centre.”

“Christie + Co continues to be thoroughly involved in the transfer of businesses in York, including the sale of the only 5* hotel in Yorkshire the Cedar Court Hotel last year. In Yorkshire’s property market, while sale prices continue to rise, the focus remains on location. The city centres of Leeds and Sheffield have increased demand from local and regional chains, while North Yorkshire spa towns attract independent buyers and those wishing to expand to multiple sites.”
