New owner found for successful pub & restaurant in West Sussex

Specialist property advisor, Christie & Co has sold The Plough Inn & Attic Rooms, located in the picturesque village of Rusper in Horsham, West Sussex.

The Plough Inn & Attic Rooms is a Grade II listed building and is a fantastic example of a traditional English pub. Nestled in the beautiful village of Rusper, it dates back to 1200 and retains many of its original features, including exposed beams and roaring fires. The main bar area is situated on the ground floor and can cater for 33 guests. There is an additional restaurant space on the first floor for 26 diners as well as two separate function/private dining rooms.  The ample outside garden area seats over 150 guests and has potential for its own bar servery.
Rusper is a village situated just over four miles north of Horsham and west of Crawley and only five miles from London Gatwick Airport. The area also has good access routes via both the M23 and A24.
Ricky Scott, the previous owner has managed the pub successfully, and built up a good local trade, as well as attracting visitors from afar.  He has taken the decision to sell the Plough to focus on other pubs in his portfolio.  He comments “The Plough has been a great pub for us over the period of time we have had it but it was time to let go due to the location not being near where our other pubs were, making it difficult to manage. I am glad to pass the reins onto Lynette who I feel will do a wonderful job. The transaction did hit a few delays, but Christie & Co were always on hand to push the deal through, so am thankful for their support throughout”.
The buyer, Lynette Merries, is a first-time owner to the pub industry, but has significant experience of working in the trade.  She comments “I am so happy to become the owner of the Plough Inn & Attic Rooms. James Hughes at Christie & Co worked hard for this dream to become a reality and I intend to continue the good work of the previous owner and make the pub the heartbeat of the community”.
James Hughes, Senior Business Agent at Christie & Co, handled the sale and comments, “The Plough is set in a lovely West Sussex village and I was not at all surprised at the amount of enquiries that we received. We achieved a good price for the pub, and I wish all the best to the purchaser in what will be their very first venture.”
The Plough Inn & Attic Rooms was sold from an asking price of £95,000 for the leasehold interest.
