The pub is ideally located close to the Wakefield “five towns” of Pontefract, Knottingley, Featherstone, Castleford and Normanton in West Yorkshire. Prominently located on the busy Wakefield Road, The Catchpenny has been under the same ownership since 2006 and has come to the market to allow the owners to concentrate on their other business, The Kings Croft Hotel in Pontefract.

Internally the pub comprises a 70-cover bar area, 100-cover function room, private bar and dance floor for events such as wedding receptions and birthday parties.  The Catchpenny currently hosts weddings, offering several bespoke packages, birthday parties and private dinners, priding itself on its home-cooked food menu.  There is also a children’s play area, lawned garden area for wedding parties and a 50-space car park, making the venue ideal for a range of functions and private parties.

On the first floor is owner’s or manager’s accommodation comprising a living room, kitchen, office, three bedrooms and a bathroom, which is ideal for a family looking to run a lifestyle business.

Current owners, Shaun and Rosie Ingram comment, “The Catchpenny is a business with great potential for a husband and wife team, or chef with management, to trade at a high level. The wedding function trade is popular and can be driven further with the facilities the property has to offer. The restaurant carvery has always been a solid earner, particularly on Sundays. The benefits of the free of tie means the drinks prices are competitive, making the wet side profitable.”

Sam Ashton, Business Agent at Christie & Co, is handling the sale and comments, “The Catchpenny sits in a great pocket of residential areas within towns and villages between Pontefract and Wakefield. The business can continue to trade and expend even further within this catchment area. We look forward to engaging with credible operators to achieve our clients’ expectations.”

The Catchpenny is on the market at a leasehold asking price of £95,000.
