Popular North Devon inn to Welcombe new owners

The Old Smithy Inn, a 17th century thatched freehouse in Welcombe, a village on the border of Devon and Cornwall has come to the market through specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co.

Since the current owners set up in 2010, the Old Smithy has been modernised and trade has increased rapidly due to its live music, good food and friendly atmosphere catering for both locals and the many backpackers to the area.

Located in the countryside a mile from the sea, the site includes a delightful three bedroom owner’s house, a commercial kitchen, large dining area, lounge and main bar.  Externally there is a large beer garden, a car park and The Bunkhouse which is let to backpackers.

Stephen Champion, Business Agent at Christie & Co’s Exeter office who is handling the sale comments, “We are delighted to bring to the market this charming inn which sits in a prime location in a stunning countryside village. With levels of trade increasing, this is a business that will continue to thrive.

“The current operation is run by hands-on owners, with a team of trusted staff helping to further the great reputation the pub has for its service. The Old Smithy Inn is well supported by locals, holiday makers and in recent times, surfers.

“The business provides a great opportunity to further its trading potential; it would suit both new and experienced operators.”
