The resort has eight guest bedrooms which each feature spa-style bathrooms as well as opulent furnishings and contemporary designs. Many of the rooms provide ocean views out of floor-to-ceiling windows.

The Pier Nine Restaurant, which forms part of the hotel, offers modern Mediterranean dishes in a 50-cover dining room. The garden also offers candlelit al fresco dining and the contemporary bar is popular for pre- and post-dinner cocktails and coffee.

Over the last couple of years, the business has won many accolades including ‘Eatery of the Year’ (2014), a ‘César Award’ by The Good Hotel Guide and was also featured on the Sunday Times Travel Magazine’s list of ‘Top 63 Hotels in the World’.

Andrew Moore, Director in Christie & Co’s Maidstone office says: “Zanzibar International Hotel represents an exceptional opportunity for an investor, skilled owner or couple to take over a remarkable asset with an award-winning reputation.

“Hastings and St Leonards are both on the rise as tourist destinations and a new link road as well as faster rail links to London will enhance their profile further.”

Current owner, Max O’Rourke, established the hotel in 2007 and followed with the restaurant in 2012. He comments: “Zanzibar represents an opportunity for a skilled couple seeking a lifestyle business in an up-and-coming town by the sea. The real strength of the business is in the popularity of the Zanzibar brand. It could also suit an experienced operator who wants to roll out a small chain. With its extensive client list and regular exposure in the national media, Zanzibar is a truly unique boutique hotel.”

Christie & Co is seeking offers of £1.375m for the freehold interest in the property.
