Shaftesbury coaching inn to reopen its doors

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has brokered the sale of Grade II listed coaching inn, The Fountain in the Saxon town of Shaftesbury, Dorset, which has been closed for the past 12 months.

Offering significant scope, The Fountain was sold off market to experienced multiple operator, Max Lacy. Having previously acquired The Black Horse in Wimborne and The Horse & Groom in Wareham through Christie & Co, Mr Lacy saw The Fountain as a great opportunity to add to his current portfolio, with plans to refurbish the pub prior to reopening later this year.

Richard Wood, Business Agent at Christie & Co’s Winchester office who handled the sale comments, “I was delighted to facilitate the transaction which will see another pub reopen its doors with a successful operator at the helm. We wish Max every success in what will be a strong business for many years to come.

“Pubs which are still viable businesses are all too often being snapped up by developers to be converted into housing or other alternative uses so it’s fantastic in this case to be assisting in re-opening the doors on a lovely pub. This sale continues to demonstrate demand from buyers for high quality hospitality businesses in the South, attracting both investors and lifestyle purchasers. We anticipate this demand to continue, making it a great time for pub owners in the region to sell.”

The Fountain Inn was sold off a guide price of £295,000 plus VAT.
