Shetland hotel brought to the market through Christie & Co

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has brought to the market The Brae Hotel, a three star hotel located in the community of Brae on the main island of Shetland.

The two storey hotel features 35 en suite letting bedrooms, a function room for 100 covers, a restaurant and a popular public bar, The Northern Lights. Additionally, the property also includes five semi detached houses, each with three bedrooms, a lounge and a kitchen, which are currently occupied by staff members.

Situated 150 miles north of the Scottish Mainland, the property is easily accessible from the island’s main airports and main ferry terminal with regular services to Kirkwall and Aberdeen. The hotel is also located near the Sullom Voe Terminal, one of the main oil terminals serving the North Sea oil fields, and benefits from strong occupancy levels throughout the year from commercial contractors, as well as tourists visiting the island.

The Brae Hotel has been owned by the same family for 30 years, and the current owners have now decided to sell in order to pursue retirement.

Stuart Drysdale, Director at Christie & Co is handling the sale and comments, “The Brae Hotel presents a rarely available opportunity to purchase a well established business on Shetland that has strong trade from both tourists and corporate visitors. The whole of Scotland, including the outlying islands, are certainly seeing an increase in visitation numbers from international and domestic tourists. Alongside its strong association with the North Sea oil and gas trade, the Brae Hotel is perfectly placed to capitalise on growing tourist numbers in the years to come.”

Christie & Co is seeking an asking price of £995,000 for the freehold interest.
