The only pub in Lapford, Devon seeks new owner

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has brought to the market Old Malt Scoop Inn, a destination countryside pub situated in the historical Devon village of Lapford.

Occupying a Grade II listed building, the forming coaching inn maintains many of its original features and comprises a cosy bar, dining room and second bar area, with capacity for over 50 covers throughout. Externally, a beer garden with picnic tables and a bamboo gazebo offers al fresco dining and is often fully booked throughout the summer months. Situated within the heart of the community and affectionately known as the ‘Scoop,’ the pub benefits from an excellent reputation and a loyal local following, with the added benefit of being the only pub in the village.

In addition to having extensively decorated and extended the property, the current owners converted the old skittle alley into four en suite bedrooms in 2017. The letting rooms are furnished to a high standard throughout and benefit from excellent ratings and reviews on TripAdvisor and Booking.com. There is also four bedroom owner’s accommodation and a spacious car park.

Having acquired the pub in 2015, current owners, Linda & Trevor Voaden are now looking to sell Old Malt Scoop in order to retire from the industry and move closer to family.

Lloyd Colin, Business Agent at Christie & Co, is handling the sale and comments, “The Scoop is a well established and successful business and I am confident that the sale will generate a significant amount of interest. Linda & Trevor have lovingly refurbished the pub since they bought it over three years ago, presenting a new owner with the opportunity to drive the business forward and focus on the letting accommodation side of the business.”

Christie & Co is seeking a guide price of £650,000 for the freehold interest of Old Malt Scoop Inn.
