The pub is currently wet led, provides up to 80 covers and comprises an open plan bar and restaurant, in addition to the Forge function room, which is situated in a separate detached building with access to a beer garden. The space presents the opportunity to host weddings, parties and private events.

Additionally, there is owner’s accommodation on the first floor, which includes three bedrooms, a living room, dining room and kitchen.

Located three miles from York city centre, between York and Harrogate, The Spotted Ox maintains an excellent reputation as a destination venue with the local community and those from further afield.

Tockwith has a rich history, with the village having been on the site since at least 1086, when it was mentioned in The Doomsday Book as ‘Tocvi.’ The village is well known as Oliver Cromwell’s staging post prior to the Battle of Marston Moor in 1644, when the Lieutenant General said, “If heaven should be half as blessed as the fields of Tockwith, all those who should pass St. Peter's Gate shall be met with joys unequalled.”

Following over 14 years of ownership, current owners, Sheila and Ian Robinson are selling The Spotted Ox in order to travel and comment, “We have enjoyed our time running the pub and will really miss our customers, but we feel the time has come for us to sell so we can fulfil our plans to travel. We chose Christie & Co due to Matthew Hendry’s enthusiasm for the pub and the prospect of helping us to sell our business.”

Matthew Hendry, Business Agent at Christie & Co is handling the sale and comments, “The Spotted Ox is set in the lovely village of Tockwith on the outskirts of York, ideally suited for an owner operator or team operation to acquire a successful pub restaurant. The pub presents huge potential to increase revenue with increased use of the Forge function building and the introduction of new, creative ideas.”

Christie & Co is seeking an asking price of £60,000 for the leasehold interest of The Spotted Ox.
