Village pub near Loughborough bought by local community group
The White Lion, the only pub in the village of Rempstone, Leicestershire has been bought by a group of its local residents through specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co.
The group of four, led by Russell Pytches, who all live in and around the village decided to put in a bid for the pub when they heard it was on the market having been falling into a state of disrepair for a while.
The pub, which dates back to the 13th century, has been a central fixture in the life of Rempstone for 100s of years, with many villagers’ parents and grandparents having drunk in the establishment.
The new owners plan to spend several weeks refurbishing the pub with many fellow villagers offering their time to help. They plan to continue to serve traditional lagers and ales, as well as to eventually introduce a food offering.
Gavin Webb, Business Agent at Christie & Co’s Nottingham office comments, “We are delighted to have helped Russell and the others to purchase one of their village gems.
“We had interest from both individuals as well as developers so the fact that we were able to support the local community in continuing this historical property’s life as a pub is fantastic. We wish the new owners every success in their new venture.”
