Becoming a Chartered Surveyor: an insight into the APC Graduate Programme at Christie & Co
Our recent APC graduate, Benji Wrigley, shares insights on his pathway to becoming a MRICS Chartered Surveyor and his role at Christie & Co. We commend his hard work for attaining chartership and look forward to seeing him thrive in his role as a qualified Valuer.

Benji joined Christie & Co in 2023 as a graduate, having completed the Planning & Real Estate degree from the University of Manchester. With an interest in the world of property, Benji decided to pursue a career as a chartered surveyor during a work experience placement at Strutt & Parker. Following the completion of his degree, he gained further experience at Bruton Knowles, working in the commercial property department, before joining Christie & Co’s Manchester office in January 2023.
During his training, Benji was exposed to all the sectors in which Christie & Co operates, and the role took him across the UK, from Aberdeen to Plymouth. “I was involved in a wide variety of instructions during my graduate scheme, ranging from a rent review of a dental practice to a valuation of a national sports venue.
“A personal highlight was assisting with the valuation of a popular public house located in the centre of Manchester. The owner had ambitious plans to further extend the property and continually develop their income streams, making it an exciting and insightful experience.
“I also had the opportunity to experience working with the agency side of the business, which really enriched my understanding of the services we provide to our clients.”
On passing his Assessment of Professional Competence (APC), Benji said, “I cannot fault the support and guidance from my colleagues at all levels of the business during my training. Two of my senior colleagues are also RICS assessors, which really helped me to translate my on-the-job training to the APC process. I’ve had a positive start to my career at Christie & Co and I am looking forward to developing further with the business.”
Since joining Christie & Co, Benji has been focusing his time within the Valuation team while also assisting with the growing Lease Advisory team. Benji has recently relocated to our Bristol office and will work within our Valuation and Lease Advisory team covering all our specialist sectors, becoming a key member of our team.
